FAQs related to graduating from this program

  • Q1: What is the procedure to graduate with the Computational Data Analytics degree?
    • Students pursuing computational data analytics degree will not need to have a final exam.
    • The steps for graduation are:
      1. In the semester that you plan to graduate, make sure to apply for graduation. You should receive instructions from graduate school on this.
      2. Submit your degree audit to the program coordinator. The program coordinator will review your degree audit to see whether there is any item to be fixed.
  • Q2: How to run degree audit
    • Many graduate programs have started to use the Star Degree Audit for tracking student progress on their degrees. For those who aren’t familiar with the Degree Audit program, the Graduate School has created this “how-to” video. The link to the video is below. You can find this video on the Graduate School homepage under Current Students -> Degree Audit. https://gradschool.nmsu.edu/Current%20Students/Degree%20Audit%20.html
  • Q3: Can I use internship to graduate?
    • Yes, you can.
    • To get credits from the internship and count them in the degree program, a student can register 3 credits for a special research problem course (CS 589) with Dr. Huiping Cao or Dr. Tuan Le.
      • At the beginning of the semester, the student needs to submit a proposal (2-5 pages) to explain what the student will work on in the internship. The proposal needs to include signatures from both the student and the student's advisor (for intern work).
      • At the end of the semester, the student needs to submit a report (20-50 pages) explaining what the student has done. The report needs to include signatures from both the student and the student's advisor (for intern work).
      • The report needs to include sections such as Introduction (to explain the motivation and the need behind the work), Related works (to explain what are state of the art), Methodologies (to explain what has been done, what techniques have been used, etc), Findings/Outcomes (to explain the results of the work) and Conclusions & Future works (to summarize the work and briefly explain what needs to be done in the future).
      • After the report is submitted, the student needs to fill in a degree audit exception form (which can be downloaded from NMSU graduate school forms) and substitute Internship with CS 589.
