FAQs related to course selection and registration

  • Q1. How can I find which courses will be offered in an immediate upcoming semester?
    • Please follow the following steps to find such courses.
      • Go to NMSU course lookup page.
      • Select the campus “NMSU – Las Cruces (Main)”.
      • Select a term.
      • Select a subject/major. For Computer Science courses, you should select “C S”.
      • Click “Get Courses”. Then you will be shown with a page with all the courses that will be offered in the selected term. For each course, the page will also show the course instructor, the time and room for the lecture and the lab (if applicable)
  • Q2: What are my deficiencies?
    • If you already took linear algebra in your previsou study, you do not have any deficiencies. 
  • Q3: Which courses I should take and when I should register for courses? 
    • Please read the course roadmaps carefully. 
      • If your first semester is Fall, please read this page
      • If your firsst semester is Spring, please read this page.
    • If you have any questions, please contact one program advisor at (dataanalytics AT cs DOT nmsu DOT edu) to get advised on the courses to take. 
    • You should register for courses as soon as the courses are open for registration. This is to avoid the issue that a course is too full that you cannot get in. 
  • Q4: What are the steps to register for a course?
  • Q5: If I cannot register for a course (e.g., because the course is full, or because I do not have prerequisite), who should I contact?
    • Please contact the course instructor. 
  • Q6: Can I transfer credits? If yes, how many credits can I transfer and what is the procedure?

    • When transferring graduate credits from NMSU as undergraduate electives, you need to fill in an MAP form (https://gradschool.nmsu.edu/Current%20Students/Graduate%20Forms.html#MAP1). 
    • When transferring graduate credits from another university, please provide the following information to the program coordinator (dataanalytics AT cs dot nmsu dot edu).
      • Syllabus of courses that you plan to transfer. 
      • The semester in which you took those courses. 
      • The university from which you took those courses. 
      • A transfer of credit request form. 
    • Note that course transfer must be in the first semester of your study. 
  • Q7: What should I do if I want to withdraw a course with a 'W'
    • The student should fill out a Change of Schedule form and submit it to this email address for processing.
